Private GP Appointments – Frequently Asked Questions

23/01/2024

We provide quick and easy access to private GP services. Using our online portal, you can book a face-to-face, virtual or telephone appointment with a practitioner of your choice at a time that’s convenient for you.

In the section below, we’ve answered some of the frequently asked questions we receive about the services we provide and what you can expect during your appointment. If you have anything else you’d like to ask, give our friendly receptionists a call on 01446 78974.

1. Can I be seen even though I have an NHS GP?

Yes, we would love to see you. You can book in to see a member of the team at Vale GP at any time. We would always recommend you maintain your registration with your NHS GP Practice, but we will hold your records in tandem to ensure effective communication in the event of an emergency.

2. Will you share my records with my NHS GP?

In the event of an emergency, we may be required to share certain information with emergency healthcare services; however, when you register with us, you will be asked your preference as to whether we share your information. We will not share any confidential medical information without your permission or knowledge.

3. Do you have access to my NHS records?

We don’t automatically have access but can ask for records from your GP if it is relevant to your care, and if you give your permission. Alternatively, you can request your records from your GP ahead of your appointment, and with your permission, we can upload them onto your file.

4. Can I register if I am not a resident of the UK?

Yes, many people come to see us who are not permanent UK residents. We have many clients with visitors from overseas who fall unwell whilst visiting the UK and are therefore not entitled to NHS treatment.

5. Will a consultation with Vale GP be covered by my medical insurance?

Each insurance provider is different, so it’s important to check this out before you register. Many providers don’t cover primary care GP consultations but will cover tests if needed. Please speak with your insurance provider to see which of our services they will cover for you.

6. How do I book an appointment at Vale GP?

You can contact us at any time using our online booking form. Our team will endeavour to respond to queries submitted via our online contact form within 24 hours. Alternatively, please call within our opening hours of 8am to 6pm for additional queries.

7. Can I be seen on the same day as my booking?

Yes, we offer same-day appointments should you need immediate care. These appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We can also offer appointments at a later time in the day or evening to suit you; whichever you prefer.

8. Is it possible to request a male or female GP?

Yes, you can request either a female or male GP at the time of booking.

9. Can I bring a chaperone or friend to my appointment?

Patients can request a chaperone before an appointment, or you can bring someone along with you if you prefer.

10. Can I collect my prescriptions on site?

Our GPs will issue a private prescription which you can purchase from any pharmacy near you. Alternatively, Vale GP has a partnership with a highly reputable online pharmacy provider to ensure you can receive your prescriptions directly to your home or office address as a next-day service.

11. How will I get my results?

You can choose how you would like to be contacted when you register with us. Results will be received by reception and can be shared via telephone, email, letter, or via a follow-up appointment. All our processes are safeguarded to ensure discretion and confidentiality.

12. Can you refer me to a specialist consultant?

Yes, our GPs can write a private referral letter for you as part of your consultation. This will enable you to see and be treated by a specialist privately.

13. Can you refer me for a scan?

Yes,  we have access to ultrasounds, DEXA scans, mammograms, CTs, X-rays and MRI scans as part of our service. Our GP can book you in for a consultation and refer you based on your history and symptoms. They will examine you before deciding the best type of scan for you.
