A steroid injection provides a targeted high dose of anti-inflammatory medication which can significantly reduce the discomfort in arthritic conditions and cure many soft tissue issues.

The benefits of the injection are often felt for up to 4 months with major joints (knees) and up to 9 months with small joints (joints in the hand). Many soft tissue conditions are completely resolved with a single injection although some require it repeating 6 months later.

Our highly experienced musculoskeletal and sports medicine doctor is proficient and experienced in diagnosing and treating the following conditions:

  • Treating arthritis in the:
    – Shoulder and acromial clavicular joint
    Wrist
    – Base of thumb
    – Small joints of the hand
    – Knee
    – Ankle
    – Great toe
  • Rotator cuff disease of the shoulder
  • Tennis and Golfer’s elbow
  • De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis of the wrist
  • Carpel tunnel syndrome
  • Trigger fingers
  • Lateral hip pain
  • Plantar fasciitis

Ostenil injections contains sodium hyalurinate which benefits the joint by restoring the normal balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid within the joint. Restoring this balance will decrease pain and stiffness and improve the other symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Working directly on the affected joint the benefits can last for up to 6-12 months although with no negative impacts on the joint the injection can be repeated at any time.

This highly beneficial injection is not available routinely on the NHS and we are fortunate to be one of the few regional centres to offer it.

Despite having undertaken tens of thousands of joint and soft tissue injections using clinical techniques there is added assurance and absolute accuracy when performing an injection guided by ultrasound. The ability to see the precise site of the injection and to watch in real time the injection entering the joint or affecting the soft tissue allows absolute confidence that the best possible clinical results will be obtained.
